People who use social media (Facebook, Twitter etc.) frequently display symptoms similar to drug and alcohol addicts

Hi guys,

I blog about publishing and new media on a daily basis and here are links to some of my latest posts that you may find of interest considering what was discussed in the class yesterday and today:

Study: People who use social media frequently display symptoms similar to drug and alcohol addicts.

Nielsen's most recent report on the state of digital and mobile media. (Published today during the class :-)

Facebook and Twitter feed have led to information overload.

65% of internet users are willing to pay for accessing paid online content.

I also run my blog on Twitter at: www.twitter.com/NewMediaBlogg

and on Facebook here.

All best,
Sebastian Aulich

  1. Glad you brought up the counter-point of information overload. It's been at the back of my mind as we all set out to plan how Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Google can get even more involved in our everyday lives.

  2. Given that our group is focused on the publishing industry and we discussed the idea today of having the industry shift their focus from deriving revenues from advertising towards pay-for-content, I find your blog on the fact that 65% of internet users are willing to pay for content very supportive of this proposed shift. I expect as more users grow up in the internet age and become more accustom to the micropayment model on facebook and the itunes pay to download process that current stigmas against pay-for-content will be reduced even further and that this could be supportive revenue model for publishers or other content creators in the future.
